This is one of the best interviews I’ve heard in a while. My coworker told me about it as I left the quiet and mostly empty office (very late) this evening. I always knew that Scott Simon was a brilliant interviewer, but I did not know how insightful and profound Terrence Howard is. It makes sense because he’s magic on screen. I’m still mulling over some of the things he said.

the wire effect
I’m pretty sure “The Wire” has completely and absolutely taken over my life — not to mention my roommate’s. Here are the telltale signs:
- We named the mouse we saw — and our wireless connection — ‘McNutty’ after Officer McNulty.
- When my roommate was coming home from work one day, she saw a homeless man and said she immediately thought of Bubs.
- When my roommate was listening to a program about the anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, she heard “towers” and said she thought of the towers in the projects.
- We — yes, this is true — do our best to talk to each other like ganstas in the show, even though both of us have sweet, high voices and Midwestern accents.
Me: “Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.”
N: “You be trippin’, yo. You gots to get got.”
Me: “Damn, what you sayin’ boy? You be workin’ dem corners.”
N: “Most def.”
We’re nearly through Season 4 — one more season and then we’ll have to a find another series that even slightly compares. I’m not sure it’s possible. Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.
